First Week Puppy Plan

Night 1-3

For the first three days where distress and vocalisations are more common, it is a good idea that he/she stays crated or boxed in the same room as you guys even if the puppy is sleeping well.

Night 4-5

On night four and five, or when he/she is sleeping through, start to move their bed or move away from his/her crate. Over nights four and five, he/she should continue to have you guys in the room although you are now no longer directly reachable

Night 6

On night six, he/she is outside of the room (or you are) but only just. You should be able to reach them upon any distress without having to go too far.

Night 7

On night seven, try moving out of the room or place you wish to have them sleep. During this night, having or borrowing a child monitor is handy. If they struggles this will allow you to give them an opportunity to resettle and if not then to go and follow the sleep waking protocol below.
